I’m Pearce Packman, an undergraduate student of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. I’m currently a senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, graduating December 2026, with a year and a half of professional software engineering experience alongside my research work.

My research interests lie in Internet of Things (IoT), embedded systems, and privacy-preserving mobile applications. In the lab I’ve worked across full-stack development and mobile, including building UMBC Navigator, our real-time indoor navigation app using Bluetooth Low Energy beacons, and I’m currently developing IoT hardware curriculum for SPACES, a new UMBC course launching in 2027.

Research

  • Built UMBC Navigator, a privacy-preserving indoor navigation app using Bluetooth beacons, deployed via TestFlight. Handled signal processing, device ranging, and a multi-floor pathfinding algorithm for the TRC building.
  • Developing an IoT hardware curriculum for SPACES, a new UMBC course launching in 2027.
